
US raw steel mill utilization rates climbed to 76.7% in the week ended Nov. 8 from 76% the previous week, Nov. 10 American Iron and Steel Institute data showed.
Production during the week totaled 1.758 million net tons, which is equivalent to short tons, up 1% from the week ended Nov. 1, when production was 1.740 million nt.
Production increased 9.1% from the corresponding week a year ago, when capability utilization was at 72.6% and production totaled 1.612 million nt.
Adjusted year-to-date production through Nov. 8 totaled 77.228 million nt, with a capability utilization rate of 77%. This is up 3.1% from the 74.910 million nt produced in the same period a year ago, when the utilization rate was 75.5%.
Broken down by AISI district, production totaled 120,000 nt in the Northeast, 542,000 nt in the Great Lakes region, 258,000 nt in the Midwest, 791,000 nt in the Southern district, and 47,000 nt in the Western region.
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, assessed the daily TSI US hot-rolled coil index at $850/st on an ex-works Indiana basis Nov. 10, unchanged from its previous assessment.
